'Because the journey is as important as the destination'
The journey of Mission Phulkari can be traced from finding artisans in rural areas of the state of Punjab, who have been engaged in embroidering phulkari since years, to providing them skill enhancement and a platform to unleash their talent and earn good remuneration for their work.
The mission tapped into creative minds with incredible energy through workshops and trainings conducted by NIFT, Delhi and Government of Punjab at different locations (Rajpura, Derabassi, Chamkaur Sahib and Phagwara). The artisans were provided tools and material to develop marketable products which appeal to modern consumers while maintaining integrity of traditional techniques and designs.
Trainers from NIFT, Delhi taught the artisans new skills and helped to enhance the existing skill sets. Each artisan was heard and provided guidance to execute their ideas into tangible products. All in all, it empowered the women artisans while revamping tradition.
